Holiday Cheer

The weekend previous, Tarita and I had a great visit from my parents. They spent four days out here and we had a great time. It was really nice to have some familiar faces around, and to share our new lives with other people.

We kicked off the weekend with a huge meal at The Reata in downtown Fort Worth. The Reata is a must visit, if only for the view from the rooftop bar and dining area.

Saturday was a perfect December day with. The sun was out, and there was a pleasant briskness to the air. Not enough chill to freeze a feller's bones, but enough to make him feel alive. My dad has a special spot in his heart for Frederic Remington's bronze statues of the Wild West, and the Amon Carter Musuem of Art has one of the world largest collections of Remington statues and paintings.

The Amon Carter Musuem of Art also has a premiere photography collection, and is currently showing a special exhibit of Eliot Porter and Robert Ketchum landscapes. Landscape photography isn't really my favorite, but this exhibit was incredible. Some of Ketchum's images, especially from Sundance area of UT, stunned me with their intense beauty. Porter's work, although beautiful and enjoyable, paled next to Ketchum's. The highlight of the exhibit were the intricate Chinese silk embroidered panels that were handmade from Ketchum's photos. Simply amazing.

That afternoon, we went down to the Fort Worth Stockyards. We were trying to catch the twice a day cattle drive they run through there, but instead we ran into a holiday parade, which included this lady, her pony, and her little dog. And yes, the dog has antlers, and yes the pony has a Santa hat.

Pete and T,

I'm so glad that you had such a good time with Pete's parents. As always, your pictures are great!
