Water Tower, Abbott, TX

Water Tower, Abbott, TX, originally uploaded by peteg.

This is from a series of photographs I made in Abbott, TX, population 300. About an hour south of Fort Worth, just off I-35, Abbott is most noted for being Willie Nelson's hometown. It's pretty much one street town, with two churces, a market, post office, the city hall, and water tower and fire station. Look for more from this series in the coming days.

A few more....

Country Road, originally uploaded by peteg.

Actually this "country road" is less than a half a mile from downtown Fort Worth, by the railroad tracks. Directly to the right, just out of the frame, is an actual hobo jungle that was constructed on a concrete foundation slab of what was once presumably a home. We quietly left when I saw someone moving around in the hobo jungle.

Sunday

Finally, some mighty fine weather came our way. Not a cloud in the sky; with temperatures in the high 50s it was w beautiful day. Tar and I spent the afternoon exploring our neighborhood, taking pictures, locating geocaches and soaking up some Vitamin D.

Silos at the Purina Factory, originally uploaded by peteg.

You may have noticed the Purina Factory in an older post. Tar and I decided to get a close up look at these structures.

Recycling

Recycling, originally uploaded by peteg.

Although the city of Fort Worth offers curbside recycling, our apartment building does not recycle. It's pretty retarded, especially when the 10 foot long dumpster overflows with rubbish. I have a feeling well over half that dumpster could be recycled. So we make a semi-weekly trip to the dump to recycle. It's a real hassle, but we mean business when it comes to recycling!

Above are bales of cardboard behind the Home Depot in Southlake, presumably waiting for the big ol' recycling flatbed to come by and carry them away

Cabin Fever: Weather in Chaos

Running from the rain, originally uploaded by peteg.

The weather has been pretty chaotic the past few weeks. The weathermen are so tired of saying "Wintery Mix" during their forecasts, they started qualifying the phrase by saying things like "I have no other way to describe this". There's been rain, sleet, ice, snow, wind, lightning...We are starting to get cabin fever.

Here's a photo from last week, when we said eff it to weather and ran out to dinner anyway. We got soaked.

Fort Worth Snow

Fort Worth Snow, originally uploaded by peteg.

North Texas was unexpectedly blanketed with snow yesterday. I like the snow, who doesn't really, because I enjoy the eerie calm that comes from the snow absorbing errant sound waves. It's peaceful.

If you've seen my heart, I believe I may have misplaced it in San Francisco

Tarita and I returned to San Francisco for the Holidays. Sounds so typical, but I really had no idea how much I missed The City until I had to leave it again. Herb Caen captured, with words, the essence of San Francisco and its many facets, but the quote that comes to mind is "If one day I do go to heaven, I'll look around and say, 'It ain't bad, but it ain't San Francisco.'"

Coming back, what once blurred into the landscape of my former life was once again stunning; the Sutro Tower poking up through the mist, the tops of Golden Gate Bridge in the background of the rolling hill in the Outer Richmond, are just a few examples. Heck even Market Street was exciting and fantastic.

And being with all of our family and friends again was wonderful...was what the Holidays are all about. Let me tell you, when you are 2000 miles away from anyone you love, those annoying traits that all our friends and family have, well, they stop being annoying and suddenly are endearing. I love all my friends and family and we are so lucky to have you all. Being away makes it special to come back.

Here are some random photographic selections from our time in San Francisco. There's plenty more to come.

Luke doesn't really like Pennywise. he was wearing that because it was cold out.

View it large, please.
