Some changes, please read especially if you use RSS

Since last March I've been engaging in the somewhat mentally ill practice of running two blogs with essentially the same content. I've decided to consolidate things at onethirdvignette.com. Soon onethirdvignette.blogspot.com will redirect to onethirdvignette.com. Although the transfer should be seemless, a whole lot of you read this blog via RSS, so I wanted to give you ample notice in case something goes wrong.

So after posting this notice, I am going to make a minor change to the feed and then post a follow up that should take you to the new blog. If your subscription gets lost and you don't see this second post, I sure would appreciate it if you went to onethirdvignette.com and re-subscribe. Thanks for putting up with all this.

Cheers,
Pete

Busy Busy

Been a busy dude. Busy, busy, busy. In time for the holidays, I intend to unveil a collection of photographs suitable for gift giving. Keep an eye for that on Friday. Here's a quick rundown of some recent stuff I've been working on.

Cowtown Cross

Yesterday morning I met Bernie at the Moritz Cowtown Cross. Check out my photos and Bernie's write up here at WestandClear.com.

Gas Drilling Rig near Bluebonnet Circle

Last night I shot some pictures of a gas drilling rig that popped up very close to the Bluebonnet Circle in Fort Worth. Steve-O has a great write-up/confessional that includes some more of my photos at WestandClear.com.

Paul Soter and Jay Chandrashekar

The Lone Star International Film Festival debuted in Fort Worth, and I was running around like a mad man for 5 days shooting pics, attending panels and catching flicks. See more photos and read all the write-ups here.

Last weekend Tar and celebrated her birthday by driving down to Austin and seeing like a thousands band at the Fun Fun Fun Fest. Despite the fact that it was a music festival, we had a great time. The line up was really good. Some bands I saw: Murder City Devils, Against Me!, Neurosis, Angry Samoans, Youth Brigade, Ted Leo, of montreal, Sick of It All, Mates of State, Poison Idea, Riverboat Gamblers, and MC Chris.

Neurosis, with thier synchronized freak my mind out spooky-delic video rocked my face off. I am so glad I finally got to seem them as they play like 5 shows a year. And it was rad seeing some of the bands of my youth like Angry Samoams, Sick of It All and Youth Brigade.

Of course the highlight was the Murder City Devils. The crowd erupted when they came on, singing-out, dancing like heck. It was delirously fun...It's been years since I've seen a crowd come alive like that. When the finished their set, the demand for an encore was so epic, Spencer the lead singer came out to explain that because they've been broken up for like 6 years they simply don't know any more songs. But the crowd stood firm, and eventually the Murder City Devils relented, replaying two songs from the set. In all the years and all the shows I've either attended or worked at I've never seen such a thing. It sounds a bit corny, but I really felt like I was taking part in a special moment that night.

Vote for Bernie Scheffler

Vote for Bernie Scheffler, originally uploaded by peteg.

Bernie Scheffler is running for District 9 City Council here in Fort Worth. It's been an intense and interesting race.

If you live in Fort Worth, please read on. I've been working with Bernie on Westandclear.com for just over a month now. I personally vouch for him and will tell you that if we had less politicians and more people like Bernie running things, our country would have a better state of affairs.

I am sure you have personally experienced the exciting and extensive change Fort Worth in undergoing. We need a voice on the City Council that speaks for regular folks like you and I.

Bernie isn't a political player with a network of cronies; he's a sensible and successful small business owner with a rational vision for our future.

Please read Bernie's own words as to "Why you should vote for me".

Thanks,
Pete

Ocean Beach

You know, I've only done one other panorama before. This is from Ocean Beach @ Judah Street in San Francisco last Sunday. It was the perfect afternoon. Joe, Kana, Steve and Phil joined Tar and I. Reggae drifted out on the sidewalk as we ate a tasty vegan brunch in the sun at the Feel Real Cafe. The food is excellent, and the vibe is so mellow, you decide how much you want to pay for your meal.

We decided to walk down the beach to settle our stomachs and along the way, we came across the Trouble Coffee Co where they serve only coffee, toast and coconuts juice. I walked towards the beach with a coconut in my hand, sipping the juice with a straw. It was pretty rad, and coconut juice has tons of electrolytes, it's like nature's Gatorade, so it helped me stave off the dehydration that plagues me when I travel.

Phil, San Francisco

Phil, San Francisco, originally uploaded by peteg.

I am in San Francisco this weekend. So nice to be back, in the the company of family and old friends. Returning to San Francisco is always hard for me because I am reminded of how much we left behind when we moved to Texas.

But we are forging new lives here in Fort Worth, and I am really happy to announce my involvement in a very special project that has brought together the finest in Fort Worth blogger-ey. I have been posting much here lately because I have been busy working with Pete W, Steve, Kevin and Bernie to create WestandClear.com, an ominibus blog to combine all of our unique talents.

We launched yesterday, and I am really pleased with the reception thus far. Have a look and join the Fort Worth discussion.

Gumball, plus some "words" to read

Gumball, originally uploaded by peteg.

I snuck my way into the Cowtown Chronicles' "studio" while Pete W, Steve, Kevin and Bernie recorded episode 12 of the Cowtown Chronicles' Podcast. It's always good to be in the company of such fine gents, and this week's podcast was spirited and informative.

Bernie talked about his recent appearance at a League of Women voters candidate's forum. Bernie is running for District 9 City Council. As a resident of the downtown district, I am one fella that's going to vote for Bernie. He's genuine and direct, a refreshing change from the entrenched, back-slapping crony types that seem to dominate Texas politics. Bernie's got new ideas, he's not afraid to speak his mind, and he genuinely cares about the future of Fort Worth. Check him out at iheartfw.com, or at the next candidates forum, Thursday, 18 October at 7 pm at the Travis Avenue Baptist Church.

Kevin, of Fortworthology.com, rants about the impending Southwest Parkway vs Light/Commuter rail. He's got some right-on analysis, and if you like hearing to a man on the verge, the podcast is worth the listen just for that. And check out his further thoughts on his blog.

Pete W clues us into the Lone Star International Film Festival which will be hitting downtown, et al, Fort Worth next month. I, for one, plan on sipping a beer with Bill Paxton.

Slip the headphones on, and have a listen at the Cowtown Chronicles. Better yet, subscribe via Itunes and catch it every week.

Also, I am kinda retarded and "writing" "words" on my "blog" isn't quite the habit that posting my photos is. It sure would have been a good idea, if yesterday when I posted the photos of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, I mentioned that Tar and I are attending the Modern 'Til Midnight event there on Friday. There's going to be extended hours, live music out in the sculpture garden, some foods, etc. St. Vincent is headlining. This seems to mean a lot to Fort Worthians, but not to me because I haven't gotten clued in. Anyway, it's going to be rad.

Lunch

Lunch, originally uploaded by peteg.

It's true, it's been a while.

Sometimes I just don't feel much like a photographer. When I go through these periods, I tend to read (well, I read a lot in general) and write. I feel more like a writer at the moment.

I have a whole back log of images to post, but I get bored with the whole photoblog thing. I won't lie, I wish I got more feedback. Comments keep me going, let me know that what I am doing is interesting. On the other hand, I always forget to put myself out there; these things go hand in hand.

The Dirty Sea

The Dirty Sea, originally uploaded by peteg.

The Dalmation was actually a Dal-mutt-ion, an awesome mix of Cocker Spaniel and Dalmation. He was really cute, and although quite confident, his odd appearance made him seem goofy.

I am not beyond using a song title for a photo title, but you won't get me to post the lyrics. You can google those.

State of Origin

State of Origin, originally uploaded by peteg.

State of Origin is a Rugby League 3 match series held every year in Australia.. All stars for their respective birth states in New South Wales and Queensland battle it out for bragging rights.

We were there for the first match in the series, which was held in Brisbane. Maroon (Queensland) won 25-18, making a spectacular comeback in the 2nd half when they were down 6-18. Brisbane was awash in maroon...men and women sported jerseys, pubs served maroon beer and our hotel lobby projected the match on the wall. We watched the first half at a pub, which evidently was the wrong pub; everybody was wearing blue and cheering for New South Wales.

Hats are compulsory

Hats are compulsory, originally uploaded by peteg.

Australian school children are required to wear brimmed hats as part of their school uniforms. Australia has the highest skin cancer rate in the world, in part because of the depleted ozone layer over the continent. Think of these kids and their hats the next time you gas up your SUV, or you get a great bargain on some Chinese made goods.

LaGrave Field

LaGrave Field, originally uploaded by peteg.

We caught the third to last Fort Worth Cats game of the season last night. LaGrave field is a really nice ballpark with views of the levee and riverside to the east and downtown to the south. The Cats were taking a beating by the 4th inning. That and the heat prompted us to bail out around the 4th inning. It was a beautiful night so we went driving with the windows down and the sun roof open. Driving along the Trinity River near 7th street we saw fireflies flashing in the night. We've never seen fireflies before, so we pulled over, killed the lights and watched the majickal critters dance in the warm evening air.

Ibis with pigeon homies, originally uploaded by peteg.

This freaky looking dinosaur-monster is actually an Ibis. They are almost as common in Australia as pigeons and room the streets, eating refuse and scraps. Although generally friendly, even a bit shy, it was somewhat disconcerting to have such a big bird casually lurking about the busy human world.
