Flat
After nearly two weeks of 70+ weather, It's rainy here in Texas. I prefer cold to the rain, but I am happy to finally have some wintery weather to get into the holiday spirit.

Dead Soldiers From A Tiger Army
Doing some scraping from the "archives" while I get some holiday shopping out of the way. Enjoy the mundane.

Evening Commute
My evening commute home. This was taken near the Highway 183/Loop 820 merge in the Bedford/Euless area.
I cracked open the sun roof on my car, and held my camera aloft. That my hood in the bottom part of the frame.

Oh, Tanenbaum (and stuff)
Tari hangs ornaments on our Christmas Tree.
Terese and Mike G help trim our Christmas Tree in our Fort Worth apt.
Tari prepares and ornament for the Christmas tree as Terese G prepares to take her picture.
An ornament for our Christmas Tree.
Tari takes pictures of the Christmas Tree trimming party in our apartment.
Santa is a sailor too. This is prolly my favorite Christmas ornament.

Holiday Cheer
Mike and Terese G, in front of the giant Christmas tree on Main Street in downtown Fort Worth, TX.
The weekend previous, Tarita and I had a great visit from my parents. They spent four days out here and we had a great time. It was really nice to have some familiar faces around, and to share our new lives with other people.
We kicked off the weekend with a huge meal at The Reata in downtown Fort Worth. The Reata is a must visit, if only for the view from the rooftop bar and dining area.
Saturday was a perfect December day with. The sun was out, and there was a pleasant briskness to the air. Not enough chill to freeze a feller's bones, but enough to make him feel alive. My dad has a special spot in his heart for Frederic Remington's bronze statues of the Wild West, and the Amon Carter Musuem of Art has one of the world largest collections of Remington statues and paintings.
The Amon Carter Musuem of Art also has a premiere photography collection, and is currently showing a special exhibit of Eliot Porter and Robert Ketchum landscapes. Landscape photography isn't really my favorite, but this exhibit was incredible. Some of Ketchum's images, especially from Sundance area of UT, stunned me with their intense beauty. Porter's work, although beautiful and enjoyable, paled next to Ketchum's. The highlight of the exhibit were the intricate Chinese silk embroidered panels that were handmade from Ketchum's photos. Simply amazing.
That afternoon, we went down to the Fort Worth Stockyards. We were trying to catch the twice a day cattle drive they run through there, but instead we ran into a holiday parade, which included this lady, her pony, and her little dog. And yes, the dog has antlers, and yes the pony has a Santa hat.

Moon Rise
A full moon rises, as seen from our aparment complex parking lot.
I am working on a much larger post soon, documenting a recent visit from some special folks.

The Elected
A few weekends ago Tar and I drove up to Denton, TX to see The Elected at Hailey's. First of all, when speaking of The Elected, it is mandatory to mention the lead singer Blake Sennett is also the lead guitarist/co-songwriter for Rilo Kiley. Now that I have that our of the way...
We had a really nice time. Denton, home to the University of North Texas, is a cool college town about 35 minutes north of Fort Worth, where the two forks of I-35 meet. It was nice to go to a show, be around people our own age that are into some of the same stuff we are.

Survey Flags
Survey flags mark a sprinkler system on an (not for much longer) empty lot near a shopping center in Colleyville, TX. New retail opportunities are popping up all over the place around here. According to Wikipedia, the DFW Metroplex has more shopping centers per capita than any other metro area in the US.

ARCTIC BLAST!
So the big news in these parts is the so-called "Arctic Blast" that ripped through here last night and made everything, especially my toesies and fingerses, really really cold.
When I pulled up to the aparment last night at around 5:45 in my short sleeves, it was a balmy 72 degrees. A half hour later Tar and I went shopping, and the had mercury plunged to 35 degrees. It was nuts.
What happens when the weather changes like that? God goes bowling and we get thunder. The angels get hecka bummed and they start crying rain, but it was so durn cold, the rain turned to ice.
My car was covered with about 1/2 inch of ice this morning. I almost couldn't get the car door open. Most of the US is like "Big deal, welcome to my world" but I'm from California, man, and the Arctic Blast is blowing my mind.

Lunch with Mister Bento
A kinda typical lunchtime spread for me--a book and a meal transported by Mister Bento--seen here at a coffee shop inside the Borders Books in Colleyville, TX near my company's new offices. This area of the DFW metroplex is overrun by national chains...there aren't many small businesses or local shops. Most lunch options are of the "themed casual dining" kind.

94134
Taken from a hillside in Daly City, this is a view of the southern most side of San Francisco. This from my archives. I am organizing and key wording *all* of my photos while trying out different image cataloguing software. I came across this previously "unpublished"photo from a project I started called "Zip Codes." The idea was to document something about each of the many zip codes in San Francisco.

Our (Vegan) Thanksgiving Feast
(Left to Right) Homemade Cranberry Sauce, Yam Biscuits, Dressing with Vegan Sausage, Mashed Yams and Potatoes with Garlic and Olive Oil, Brussel Sprouts with Olive Oil Garlic and Almond Slivers, Mushroom and Vegan Sausage Gravy, and Vegan Fried Chicken Strips.
This was waaaayyyy too much food for the two of us. We didn't even touch dessert. We have about a week's worth of leftovers.
All this food may Tar happy, and me sleepy. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

End of the week
I've been home sick with an inner ear thing that makes me feel seasick. Like real seasick. Until I went to the doctor and got some meds, I couldn't walk, I was nauseous, vomiting, etc. It was pretty terrible, but I am all better now. Since it's the end of the week, and I haven't been shooting much I thought I'd post some pictures of sunsets.
Thus concludes another day of work in Grapevine, TX
My drive home on Highway 121.
The sun sets on downtown Dallas as seen from Ross Ave. See the making of this photo here.

Mundane Tuesday
A random duct tape "X" stuck to a brick wall in Dallas, TX.
I have this nasty habit, in the presence of my dear sweet wife, to mockingly say "Oh! I am going to snap this picture for my photoblog! I have to hurry up and post it on the internet!" whenever I see someone taking a random picture of some esoteric urban detail. When I snapped this "X," Tar totally turned me words against me. From now on, I will keep my mouth shut.
